IA AAP Welcomes New Chapter Champion

Dr. Kaushik serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Iowa Chapter Committee on Immunizations and is the American Academy of Pediatrics Iowa Chapter Infectious Diseases Champion. She is an enthusiastic advocate for children’s health and prevention of infections in children.

Dr. Kaushik is presently Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Unity Point Health, Sioux City, and holds an academic appointment with Department of Pediatrics, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She is residency preceptor at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation Residency Program. Her present roles involve managing children with infections in northwestern Iowa, actively mentoring and teaching future physicians about the various aspects of infectious diseases and conducting clinical research. Dr. Kaushik completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at University of Texas Southwestern, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas at Dallas, Texas. She pursued her residency in Pediatrics from Mount Sinai School of Medicine St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, NJ, and received the Best Teaching Resident award for outstanding teaching in Pediatrics. Prior to this, she earned her M.D. degree in Pediatrics from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and research (PGIMER) - one of the apex medical institutes in India. Dr. Kaushik is certified in Healthcare Epidemiology, Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship by the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). Dr. Kaushik’s research interests include antibiotic resistant infections, HIV and lower respiratory infections, and she has published her work on several important pediatric infections. Among her publications, her research work on the impact of MRSA Surveillance in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has been cited by the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on Infection Control. Dr. Kaushik has presented her work at premier national and international meetings. She is a reviewer and editorial board member of several medical journals.

Dr. Kaushik is also a nominated member of the Midwest Society for Pediatric Research; the New York Academy of Medicine, and has been elected as an overseas fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, United Kingdom.
